You can use an indirect file to specify one or more databases to compact, to rebuild views, or to fix corrupted views and documents . An indirect file is a text file that lists database file names or directory names and that you can specify for the compact, updall, or fixup task on the Domino console command line. The indirect file allows you to specify more than one database on the command line.

How to create aNotes the indirect file

1. Use a text editor, such as Notepad, to create the text file.

2. List the files names of the databases in the Data directory that you want to fixup, compact, or rebuild. If the databases reside in a subdirectory of the Data directory, specify the directory and the database file name. If you want to fixup, compact, or rebuild all databases in a subdirectory, specify only the directory name.

3. Save the file with the file extension IND.

To specify the indirect file for the fixup, compact, or updall task

1. At the Domino server console, enter one of the following commands and the indirect file name:

• To run fixup, enter:
load fixup filename.ind
Note On a Windows NT system, enter nfixup.exe filename.ind.
• To run updall, enter:
load updall filename.ind
• To run compact, enter:
load compact filename.ind

Error "File already exists" when launching the Notes client

Problem

While lunching lotus Notes User is getting this error "File already exists"
and the customer cannot access it. The status bar indicates a consistency check is being performed on the bookmark.nsf.

Reason

In this case, the bookmark.nsf file was corrupt. When Notes tried to create a new bookmark.nsf, the operating system would not allow it because the file already existed.

How to solve the problem

Delete or rename the bookmark.nsf and launch the client to allow it to create a new bookmark.nsf file.

Lost Lotus Notes User ID or Password

You might find yourself in a situation where a Lotus Notes user ID has been lost or corrupted and no backup is available, or a user has forgotten his/her password.

In both case the result is the same: the user ID is unusable, and, as there is no backup, you must create a new one in order to restore the user’s access to resources.

You must register the user again. That way, a new user ID will be issued. This new ID will give access to the mail file.

You need administrator access to the Domino server on which the user is registered to do that.

1- On the server, open the Lotus Domino directory (where all users are registered), open the missing ID person information sheet.

Here, you need to take a backup of a few data. Print the missing ID person information sheet for reference. Also, copy the Internet Password (encrypted version) of this person and paste it to a text document.

2- Start the registration process. Register a new person with exactly the same first name, middle name and last name (check with the printed person information sheet). Take care of the following points:

- Basic tab: Same first name, middle name and last name. Same registration server. Check “create a notes id for this person”. Mail system: none.

- ID info tab: security setting = international.

-Make sure to create a notes ID on the server and/or in a specified folder.

3- Register the person. Answer “yes” when asked if you want to update the person information.

4- Once the person has been registered, go to the person information sheet in the domino directory. There, change the mail system from “None” to “Notes”. Check with the printed version of the person’s information sheet, and confirm that all user parameters are the same as before. Copy the Internet Password (encrypted version) back to the user information sheet from the text document you copied it to.

5- Done. A new user ID has been produced, and the user can use it to authenticate and access resources.

How to change the default font in new memo of Louts Notes?

Open the mail template in Lotus Designer

Open Forms -> Memo.

Change the field Body.

There you can specify the default font.

Now save the template and replace design in your mail file.
