Lost Lotus Notes User ID or Password

You might find yourself in a situation where a Lotus Notes user ID has been lost or corrupted and no backup is available, or a user has forgotten his/her password.

In both case the result is the same: the user ID is unusable, and, as there is no backup, you must create a new one in order to restore the user’s access to resources.

You must register the user again. That way, a new user ID will be issued. This new ID will give access to the mail file.

You need administrator access to the Domino server on which the user is registered to do that.

1- On the server, open the Lotus Domino directory (where all users are registered), open the missing ID person information sheet.

Here, you need to take a backup of a few data. Print the missing ID person information sheet for reference. Also, copy the Internet Password (encrypted version) of this person and paste it to a text document.

2- Start the registration process. Register a new person with exactly the same first name, middle name and last name (check with the printed person information sheet). Take care of the following points:

- Basic tab: Same first name, middle name and last name. Same registration server. Check “create a notes id for this person”. Mail system: none.

- ID info tab: security setting = international.

-Make sure to create a notes ID on the server and/or in a specified folder.

3- Register the person. Answer “yes” when asked if you want to update the person information.

4- Once the person has been registered, go to the person information sheet in the domino directory. There, change the mail system from “None” to “Notes”. Check with the printed version of the person’s information sheet, and confirm that all user parameters are the same as before. Copy the Internet Password (encrypted version) back to the user information sheet from the text document you copied it to.

5- Done. A new user ID has been produced, and the user can use it to authenticate and access resources.

i.e i am trying to connect new user to Domino Server.
While connecting to Domino Server it is asking for user id.

But i don't know how to create new user id.
And i can't use existing one also as it is of different user.

What to do now? Please suggest me.

While registering an user, an user Id will be created. To register a new user, open your Lotus administrator client. Go to configuration tab. On the right hand side, there is a tools pan. Expand tools pan, Register => click on person to register a person. Registration process gives you two options to save the user ID. Either save it in person document of save it in a separate place in your OS or both. Default path is
"lots\notes\data\id\user" folder of the user who is registering the user. You can change the path while registering the user. If you have selected to attach the ID in person doc, that ID will be remain attached until notes client is configured for that user. You can manually download the ID file from the person document if the user is not configured yet.

Thanx sir.
This video was really useful.

But i am facing problem in creating user id.

As shown in video.
After adding all details of user.
I need to click on "Green check sign".But setup i am currently having with me does not contain this Green Check Button.Due to to which users are not getting created.

Product i am using is:

IBM Lotus Domino Designer 8.5 for Windows English Trial

Installed from below link:

https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/download.do?source=ESD-NTSDOMTRL&S_PKG=CR8UMEN&lang=en_US&cp=UTF-8

Is is happening because of Trial Version Limitations?

It is nothing to do with the trial version. It is a full version. Few things you need to check. Make sure you are using the right cert.id, home mail server, registration server, template. and the right path to store the user.id file.

Thanks a lot, this article was helpful to me. I was near to find out the way by myself, but that "Mail system: None" tip was really time-saver for me :)

@Deniz : I think the password for both ID file are different. That's why it's not opening. Copy the Id file from your windows xp system to your windows 7 system and try.! You can find the ID file in Lotus\notes\data directory. The ID file name is user.id

Thanks
Benu
