Error "File already exists" when launching the Notes client

Problem

While lunching lotus Notes User is getting this error "File already exists"
and the customer cannot access it. The status bar indicates a consistency check is being performed on the bookmark.nsf.

Reason

In this case, the bookmark.nsf file was corrupt. When Notes tried to create a new bookmark.nsf, the operating system would not allow it because the file already existed.

How to solve the problem

Delete or rename the bookmark.nsf and launch the client to allow it to create a new bookmark.nsf file.

Hi Thanks, It worked fine. But the same issue is repeating and daily I have to delete this file and have to start. It is giving a big problem. Can you please suggest a permanent fix for this. I think we have to configure not to create this bookmark.nsf file ever time like this.

@Amsi: I think Lotus notes is not stopped properly every time you stop notes. Are you using kill notes program to stop notes? OR you may be using a roaming profile, which is causing the issue. If you have a roaming profile, ask the administrator to unroam and reroam you. Else, Check, why lotus notes is not stopped properly.

The corrupt .nsf file can be easily repaired and fixed by running the inbuilt command line tools, named are: fixup, compact, and updall. In case, if these utilities fail to fix the corruption, users can solve the problem with the help of a third party tool like Stellar Phoenix Lotus Notes Recovery Software
